Acne is a complicated disease. There is so much misinformation out there! We're here to help you.

For most people, acne is an inherited condition of the pores. Your pores have a genetic "defect" where they produce skin cells much faster than normal. This action, called retention hyperkeratosis, combined with the propensity to produce more sebum (oil), are what cause the start of an acne lesion. 

This buildup of sebum and skin cells within the pores is called a microcomedone. These microcomedones can generate a blockage inside the pore, creating a perfect environment for P. Acnes bacteria to thrive. Over time, these microcomedones surface as acne - usually within about 30-90 days. 

So you see, the solution to avoiding acne is all about preventing the microcomedones (the beginning of acne) from forming at all. One example of how our program works is our acne specific skin care products penetrate the pore and prevent dead skin cells from building up.

We have customized a program at BARE that is personally designed to take your specific skin type, acne type, skin sensitivity, skin color, and environment into consideration in order to decide what we need to do together to clear your skin. It usually involves diet and lifestyle changes, a skin analysis, in-house skin treatments, a lot of education, and a home care routine with products that are specifically tailored to what your condition needs. At the beginning, we meet every two weeks to assess your progress, give a hydrating or exfoliating treatment, and slightly alter your home care routine so it continues to challenge your skin until it clears.
